Project Run Bali

Love the idea of a a wild running adventure but not sure where to start?

Project Run Bali is just for you.

This supported expedition starts at the top of Bali’s north coast - Lovina - and finishes on the Southern Island of Nusa Cenigan. We will traverse over 110km of mountains, beaches, National Parks, Islands, back streets, local villages and towns to see the real Bali - local Bali.

With four guides including World Record Holder Erchana Murray-Bartlett and the one and only Pilates extraordinaire Alice Baquie, you’re in safe hands. Each day, the van will grab our luggage and meet us at various rendezvous points as we go. We’ll have a safety bike following along for extra water, first aid and extraction (should you feel you’ve ran more than you need for the day).

The pace will be slow and steady with a focus on adventure and community rather than speed. Please don't be afraid of the distance or your ability. Erchana, Alice and and the team will take good care of you. Project Run Bali is for everyone.

Partners are welcome - encouraged - and will be able to be involved with our nightly Pilates and mobility as well as ride along in the van from location to location. The bigger the support crew, the better.

Accommodation will be a variation of poolside villa’s to mountain top campsites to beachfront hotels to make sure you’re getting a good rest at the end of each leg.

The final day will not only include a celebratory breakfast, but we’ll spend the afternoon drift snorkeling down the famous mangrove reef off Nusa Lembongan before celebrating in style as the sun sets over the beach.

An unforgettable adventure.

Price: $2,499.

Deposit only: $499.

Here, we will rendezvous at Seminyak beach and jump in our bus for the drive north to the very tip of Bali - Lovina Beach. We’ll stop in the mountains (Bedugal) for some lunch and a stroll around the Bali Botanical Gardens before making our way to our Lovina Villa by mid afternoon.

Alice Baquie will take us through an evening mobility and Pilates session on the beach, before we dive into some dinner and go through the logistics of the exciting days ahead.

Total distance: 18.2 km.

Total elevation: 1,342m (mostly up).

Day 2. We’re off and running.

Mornings will start before the sun, to give us a chance to beat the heat. After a local breakfast (and coffee), Alice will take us through our morning pre-run mobility warm up.

We ease through the backstreets of Lovina, before we start to climb into the mountains. The roads turn to dirt and the elevation creeps past 1K of vert. We’ll hike the pinch of of the climb before reaching the summit for some food, views and high fives.

From here, the road turns to single track as we weave downhill (finally) through stunning farmland. We end the run at the world class Banyumala Twin Waterfalls where we can soak off the sweat and bask in the stunning landscape around us.

A local lunch will refill our tank before the van takes us to our accommodation, nestled in the mountain side of the Buleleng Regency. You’ll have dinner overlooking the Twin Lakes (Buyan Lake and Lake Tamblingan) surrounded by some incredibly cheeky Monkey’s (hold on to your banana’s!)

Day 3. Back down the mountain.

Our run today starts along the ridgeline of the Buleleng Regency before we head straight into the jungle. We’ll run 8km along the side of the Buyan lake before we re-emerge at the famous Handara Gate for a group photo (and some lunch).

We’ll continue to run South through Bedoegoel as the landscape turns into agriculture and rice patties. Today’s run is mostly downhill with a mix of landscapes. A real mix bag. We will end at the 42.2km mark, save our marathon to Strava and get a lift to our o our pool side accommodation in the Ubud Regency.

Once we’ve had an obligitory dip in the pool, Alice will take us through an afternoon mobility session to keep us limber for the third and final big day tomorrow.

Dinner will be in the hustling and vibrant Ubud.

Day 4 - you’ve got this.

Starting at the top of the famous Ubud rice fields, we’ll wind our way south, through central Ubud and into the more regional and local Bali. Today’s section will be a mix of towns, farmland and back country roads all the way to hit the southern Coast.

From here, we will turn south and run along the coast line to Sanur - our final destination for the day.

After a quick pool dip (or ocean dip) and some lunch, we’ll jump on a ferry to the beautiful Nusa Lembongan where we will spend our evening stretching and exploring the northern section of the Island. A more local feel, Nusa Lembongan is a more wild and untamed version of Bali.

Ubud to Sanur.

Distance: 42.2km.

Total elevation: 400 m (mostly down/flat).

Date TBC

Day 5. The cool down.

As today’s run is more of a scenic flat 10km, we’ll let the sun come up before we do and give Alice the stage to take us through a full 50 minute beach Pilates session. Our bodies will thank us for it.

From there, we’ll run the backway down Nusa Lembongan across the famous yellow friendship bridge to Nusa Cenigan where our final finish line will be at the stunning Suka Beach Club. After breakfast and maybe a cheeky mimosa and pool swim we’ll jump in a taxi (well, the local version) to Mangrove Point where we’ll be transported out by boat to the reef about 200m offshore. We’ll have the opportunity to drift snorkel down the reef while having constant boat support from above.

From here, we’ll finish the trip in style with a local feast on the beach with some music and beverages (if you feel like it). One last sunset, one last chance to cheers over what was an incredible achievement.

FAQs

Mandatory gear?

Yep. Safety first. The full list will be sent to you before we jet off, but the gist is you’ll need to bring a running bag with water carrying capacity of at least 1.5L. We’ll also send you a suggested packing list to make sure you’re as prepared as you can be for the adventure.

Do I need to be a fast runner?

Absolutely not. There is no set pace and we will aim to run as a group throughout the expedition. There will be steep parts we will hike and we’ll stop collectively if someone needs to pause for a moment. We have multiple tour leads to ensure everyone is covered if the groups fragments over small distances and we will have regular rendezvous points with the support van to regroup and refuel.

If you’re unsure, or would like to talk this through further, please email team@projectrun.net and we will be in touch.

Do I have to commit to running all of the distance each day?

Our longest day will be 42.2 and Bali is hot, so we understand it’s a lot. In fact, it’s why this expedition exists - to push boundaries and to do something that may seem beyond our limits.

You can run as little or as much as you like each day. We will have regular rendezvous points with the support van if you need to jump in at any point and call it a day. The van will either drive you ahead to the accommodation or you’ll meet us at the finish line of that day’s run (they’re always pretty fun - think magic waterfalls…).

Can partners join?

Of course. Accommodation is in private rooms, so your partner is welcome to stay with you. We have a ‘support crew legend’ discount of 40% which essentially covers your partners food, accommodation, transport and all extra activities. Your partner is also welcome to join in on all the Pilates and mobility by Alice Baquie and can even come and join in on the run for small sections at a time (even 5-10km each day).

I have a specific diet…will that be OK?

Absolutely. We can cater for all dietaries, but we ask you let us know before day one so we can adequately prepare.

What if I get injured or sick in the lead up and can’t run?

Reach out to us at team@projectrun.net and we can discuss your options.

Once I've paid my deposit will my remaining balance be taken automatically?

No. You will need to log into our payment platform to make the remaining payment. This will be due 30 days before we kick off. You’ll receive email reminders as this date looms.
